I filmed, directed, and animated this music video for the legendary Daniel Lemma and his song "Papi Dansar."
The concept was to depict a free-spirited character, "Papi," journeying through various locations around the world, with the song's lyrics enhancing and propelling the narrative forward.
"Papi Dansar" tackles the issue of structural racism. The character "Papi" leverages his privileges to act and behave without facing any consequences, unlike others at the club who are subjected to different scrutiny. Papi continuously tests the limits, eventually resulting in his expulsion from the club. However, even then, he evades the true repercussions of his actions. Papi symbolizes white privilege.
The role of "Papi" was masterfully portrayed by Emil Ljungestig from the Gothenburg City Theatre. The entire video was shot over two separate sessions at the bar Oceanen in Gothenburg. The setting and performances were meticulously planned to convey the underlying themes and bring the story to life.
